Australia Day/Invasion Day/Survival Day…… A day to celebrate our beautiful country, with a (not so far back) history that isn’t so beautiful..  I hope that most are aware of the significance that todays date holds in regards to our original inhabitants, and keeps that in mind during the day…. While I am all and more for celebrating our wonderful country, I just don’t agree with the date. Today marks the beginning of the horrible mistreatment, to say the least, of our traditional land owners, however a lot of people just recognise today as the date that the British first settled in Australia…(why do we still celebrate that anyway?!).. it’s beyond me why the date of Australia Day hasn’t been changed so that we can all inclusively come together for the pure reason of celebrating how beautiful our country and its people are…. because today we are all celebrating our country and its people right? …not the arrival of the British first fleet.. Etc etc etc.. I don’t want to go into a big speech about it all.

But in saying all of that, I am proud of how far we have come as a whole in regards to our multiculturalism and diversity, and in recognising our Indigenous people… but there’s still a long way to go, as always. We live in a beautiful country, filled with beautiful people, and for that I’m grateful :)
